God of the Possible!
Luke 18:18-27 There was a little chorus that I learned in Bible club in High School. The words went, "Got any rivers you think are uncrossable, got any mountains you can't tunnel through; God specializes in things thought impossible. He does the things that no other friend can do." A young wealthy ruler approached Jesus and asked what he needed to do to inherit eternal life. Judging from his response, the man lived a morally upright life, doing the best he could. Somehow there was something missing, something was not quite right. I believe the man was very sincere in his quest; but he wasn't prepared for the answer. I'm sure he had in mind something he could do or a fee or donation he could give. To give up everything! - His wealth - he wasn't ready for that. Is that what God has in mind for everyone - probably not. In this man's case, money was the key. His pride was vested in it and his position and personhood depended on it. He couldn't let it go. One of the Gospels states that Jesus loved him. Jesus didn't run after him and try to get him to reconsider. Jesus went on to discuss how difficult it is for the rich to enter the kingdom. Evidently Jesus painted a rather grim picture and people began asking, "Who then can be saved?" In essence Jesus said, "It's a God thing. It's impossible for you; but with God, all things are possible." Just like with the rich young ruler, there are things in our lives that stand in the way of our close relationship with God. Things, habits, attitudes, etc. that make our walk with Christ far less than what it could be. It may even be your salvation that is at stake. You may have tried everything you knew to do; but it's a God thing - only He can get the job done. Be obedient to His Word and the Holy Spirit within, and let God worry about the how, when and where. Only you can make the decision, that's a man thing.
