How Great is the Love of God
I John 3:1-3 Some things are so vast that we don't have the ability to comprehend them. Things like how many buckets of water are there in the Pacific Ocean, or how far away is the end of space? Describing the love of God is just one of those things. There is just not human ability or language to understand or describe it. To whatever extent we are able to grasp it, it is always infinitely greater. When we say that "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son." Or that "while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.", we can certainly say that that is a lot of love, but we can only begin to grasp it from a human perspective. Even then we can only catch a glimpse when we are in a position to actually make the decision to die for another. No way we could we ever began to have a clue as to what it was like for a member of the eternal Trinity to love enough to be willing to become one of the created creatures, stepping out of eternity, and sacrificing himself by willingly allowing Himself to be brutalized and executed in the terrible way that He did. We can't even understand "trinity". But we can know by faith that He loves us that much. Our Scripture says that our Father "lavished" His love upon us, allowing us to be called the children of God. He promises to come back and get us and make us to be like Him. He give us eternal life that starts the moment He comes into our lives. He wants us to grow in that love relationship by spending time with Him. And He wants us to practice that love by sharing it with one another. He wants us to learn to love unlovely people, so that through our love, they might be introduced to His great love. We can start by loving the ones that He puts in front of us.
