I Can Do All Things

Philippians 4:10-13 Verse 13 is one that all too often is taken out of contest and made to say almost anything but what Paul had in mind when he wrote it. This is part of a response to the generosity that the Philippians have shown to him. He is saying that not only has he learned to survive in whatever situation he finds himself in, but he has learned the secret of being content in it. To be content even when he' s hungry or in want. The secret is in learning to do it in the strength that only Christ can give. There needs to be a real desire on our part to do God's things in God' s way, to be Christ centered rather than self-centered. As we read the Word, more of our time needs to be in finding principles and direction in the place where we are right now. Certainly, we need to read it for comfort, hope and inspiration, but spend time in seeking direction from the Word in the here and now. We ought to be asking God to help us to see people as He sees them and want for them what God wants and desire to do what He wants done about it. It's very difficult to do what God is laying on your heart to do if your desire and mind is elsewhere. Your heart simply won't be in it. Do you pray, "Lord give me such and such a job because it pays good or has good benefits." or "Lord, whatever job you supply help me to the be the person You made me to be, so that You will be glorified." It's part of seeking ?rst the kingdom of God and His righteousness and letting Him take care of the rest. Trust Him that He knows what He's doing and has the best interests of the kingdom, as well as your best interests in mind and in control. Pray for a desire and a willingness to obey His direction. Keeping these things in mind, you'll discover that you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength, and it will be far more than you ever thought possible. Hallelujah!!
