It is Time

Colossians 3:1 11 Which of us would put on his Sunday clothes after spending a week working in the sewers without first taking a bath; or put wallpaper over a wall with big holes without first filling the holes or put a table cloth on a table covered with garbage without first cleaning it off. It sounds foolish to even suggest such things, but how often do we try to drape a sin ridden character with the appearance of a Christian character. Why is it that everyone else seems to see through it but us? One of the first tasks is to set our minds on things above and not on earthly things. All too often the things that we are focused on and the way we want others to perceive us are totally different. Is it any wonder why recovery so often doesn't work? The only person we are really kidding is ourselves. It is time to make up our minds, are we going to live for Christ or for ourselves. If we intend to live for Christ then our Scripture tells us in verse 5 to "Put to death, therefore whatever belongs to the earthly nature". It then gives a list of all the things that need to be put away. It is time to let the search light of the Holy Spirit shine into the hidden areas of our own lives, rather than find the flaws in one another. We need to with the help of God to build bridges and tear down the fences that separate us. We need to model what is right before expecting others to perform.
