Jochebed, a Mother of Faith & Bravery
Exodus 2:1 10 Jochebed was a woman who had to make a very difficult decision. The Israelites were increasing in number, the Egyptians were using them as slaves and were not a little concerned with their increase in numbers. The Pharaoh had a plan to keep them under control. The traveling midwives were told that if a girl was born she could live, but if a boy was born, they must kill him. When the midwives "couldn't get there in time", the order was given to throw all the boy babies into the river. Jochebed gave birth to a son. Her difficult decision was: do I give up my baby to be killed, or do I hide him? To hide him was to put her own life on the line. What happens if she' s found out? In Hebrews 11:23 we read: "By faith Moses' parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king's edict." After these three months, God put a plan on her heart. She made a boat out of his crib basket and set him afloat on the river. The baby' s big sister followed the basket and when the Pharaoh' s daughter saw it and had it pulled out of the water, the sister said, "I know someone who can nurse the baby for you." God blessed Jochebed' s faith so that she could legally nurse her own child. Isn't God good? The Pharaoh' s daughter named the child that she "found", Moses, because she drew him out of the water. Satan failed again many years later when he again tried to destroy the deliverer by having Herod kill the children in his generation. If we dare to obey and walk in faith God will fulfill His plans regardless of the circumstances. Amen?!
