Learning to Live as a New Creation.

Colossians 3:1-17 Truth is not the sum of what we are able to see and hear and feel. We, in our generation, should be more keenly aware of this than in any other. Go to any science fiction or action movie with all its special effects - you know in our head that what you're seeing is not really what is happening; but when you' re caught up in the middle of the action, your emotions will tell you this is real. Politicians have a way of painting pictures of what they want the public to believe. Truth is what is, with no spin or special effects. Pilate, after Jesus told him that He had come into the world to testify to the truth, asked. "What is truth?" In John 14:6, Jesus said, "I am the Way the Truth and the Life . . ." If you want to know the truth about what something weighs, you put it on the scales. If you want to know how long something is, you measure it with a ruler. When you want to know the truth about life you "measure" it with Jesus through the Word; which is forever settled in heaven. God is who the Bible says He is. I am what the Bible says I am. John 3:18 says that if I don't believe, I am already condemned. John 3:16 tells me that if I believe, I will not perish but have eternal life. The Bible also tells me that if I am in Christ, I am a new creation, that the old has gone and the new has come. II Cor. 5:17. When we get up in the morning and see in the mirror that our hair is a mess, we don't say, well, I guess that's the way I am, I might as well learn to live with it. No, we apply the truth of the comb and make the adjustments. This is where the value of "confessing" God's Word regularly and often comes in. Find a verse that says the truth about you in Christ. Say it until it becomes part of your thinking. Often there are aspects of our lives that are like "cowlicks" in our hair. They need a lot of comb (the Word) and hair spray (prayer) to bring them under control.
