"Lettuce" Persevere
Hebrews 10:19-25 The writer of Hebrews offers four invitations to areas that ought to be carefully considered. He offers them with two important facts in mind. First it is because we have access to the most holy place, because of the blood of the cross. And second, because the one who shed His blood once and for all also acts as our High Priest and intercedes for us on behalf of that blood. Let us draw near to God. James 4:7f says, "Resist the devil and he will flee from you, come near to God and He will come near to you." We are to come with a sincere heart and full assurance of faith. Secondly Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess. Because God is who He says He is and we are who and what He says we are and because He is faithful we can boldly walk the talk. Thirdly, let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. This should suggest to us several things. That love, and good deeds is not a natural thing - it doesn't just happen, there needs to be conscious planning. Self-motivation is not enough there needs to be mutual motivation. It should be characterized by encouragement not pushiness. And finally, let us not give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing. Meeting together in a worship service is very important, but God's Word says that "Where two or three come together in My name, there am I with them." (Matthew 18:20) Anytime we meet formally or informally, it becomes a time of encouragement, intercession, mutual strengthening, worship, learning, etc. etc. The power that comes from being in one accord will prepare us for the pressures, challenges, and discouragements that confront us daily. The object is to persevere until He comes, not to barely, in misery just make it, but to arrive at the finish line in victory. Let's do it together!!
