Open for Inspection
Daniel 6:1-5. If someone were to try to defame you, what areas in your life or character would they find grounds for their accusations? Are there things that you are involved in that, if they were published, would be an embarrassment to you? The words of Daniel 6:1-5 made me do some thinking. Here was a man that was being promoted and those placed under him were desperately trying to find ground to derail the appointment. They could find nothing in the way he handled government affairs that they could get a handle on, "...he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent." The only chance they had was to create a situation that he would have to choose between loyalty to the king and loyalty to God. With Daniel it was not even a choice, he merely continued as he always had. When the law said, "don't pray", he prayed anyway because that was his normal way of doing things. He didn't pray in secret before - he didn't pray in secret afterwards. His life and character were open for inspection - how about yours? If we ever hope to reach our families and neighborhood for Jesus, our characters must have a clear ring of genuineness. Truth doesn't take shortcuts.
