Set Your Mind
Romans 8:5-8 Have you noticed that it's far easier to desire to live a Christian life than it is to actually do it? There is not an 'automatic pilot" that can be set so that everything will go just right. If we shoot at random, hitting the target will be an accident. If we set our radio dial at random, unless we are easily pleased, we won't be hearing what we want to hear. - Normally when we want to hit a target, we aim at it. If we want to listen to a particular station, we set our dial accordingly. Consider the following verses. Romans 8:5 "Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires." Colossians. 3:1-3 "(1) Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. (2) Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (3) For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God." What we focus our minds on is for the most part the direction our life will go. The verses in Romans tell us that we can tell where the mind is set by observing the way we live. The Colossians verses pick up the other side and remind us that we can make a choice regarding the course of our life; keeping in mind that he's talking to people who have received Christ as Savior. It is matter of conscious choice. The way we set both our hearts and minds will determine the course of our lives.
