Some Advice from Peter
I Peter 4:13-25 Peter was not a super educated, finished kind of person; bid, rather he was a 'stick your foot in your mouth`, man of action, fisherman. He said what he thought. He wasn't afraid to try something new, like walking on the water. He listened to Jesus and took Him seriously. Often, he would act before he understood the directions, he answered before he heard the question, and he 'crossed the line of scrimmage before the: ball was snapped? He was like a puppy trying to please his master. Peter often learned the hard way, but once he got into step, he remembered the lessons that he learned. This comes through when you compare some of the remarks he makes in his letters with the experiences he had in the Gospels. From our Scripture, verse 13 "Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed."; notice some of the key words: "prepare", "action" , "self-controlled" ; " set your hope" , " grace" . You can begin to see the combination of the kind of character he had coupled with what he had learned in his walk with Jesus. This is the kind of person God can use. There is a big difference between getting less than perfect results when you' re trying to get it right and getting it wrong cause, you just don't care and are determined to do it your own way. Peter' s advice comes strained through experience; we would be wise to pay attention to what he has to say.
