Standing Firm

I Corinthians 10:1 13 Walking in a way that pleases God does not just happen. We don't need to be taught to sin. It all comes in the package we are born with. When God's people were in Egypt, they cried out to God to be rescued from the terrible persecution and slavery they were in. God sent Moses as a deliverer and brought His people out of Egypt in a powerful way. Although they were fed and kept miraculously through the 40 years they spent in the desert they seemed to have no desire in their hearts to serve God. They were given rules and guide lines to live upright and healthy lives, but they were into idolatry and sexual immorality. They complained and grumbled continuously and were always putting God to the test. Rather large numbers of them were put to death on several occasions. Only two people that were over the age of 20 when they left Egypt lived to get into the promised land. The passage tells us that the things that happened to His people in the desert were given as examples to us. Unless there is a real desire on our part to live a life pleasing to God it just will not happen. We are told that it is the very time we think that we have everything under control is the very time that we had better be on the lookout. God has given us a promise that He will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear. He will even provide the way out. There is a catch we need to do it His way.
