The Liberating Power of the Truth

John 8:11-31. We probably all have experienced the bondage producing effect of a lie. Then when we are confronted with the truth, we need to explain it away and then remember both the lie and the explanation, etc., etc. Subtler than telling a lie is living a life based on a lie. This is especially true when one is not aware that what he is basing his life on is a lie. Many are trying to live their life as though there were no accountability to anyone except themselves. If we can somehow factor God out of the equation, then it is just us and who or whatever we choose to be accountable to. The truth, however, is that there is a God to whom we must give account. There also is an eternity in which we will experience the results of that accountability. If there is a bridge out on the other side of a blind curve, our ignorance of the fact won't change the results if we drive with abandon as though the bridge were fine. "I do have some good news" (it's not Geico). Yes, there is a God to whom we must give account, but that God loved us so much that He gave His only Son to die so that we might be delivered from the lie we were living. Not only that, but He has shown us how to order our lives in a way that is pleasing to God and make it possible to spend eternity with Him rather than eternally banished from Him. In the various tasks of life there are usually many ways to accomplish them with equally good results. Ultimate success comes only when Jesus is Lord and Savior in our lives. Yes, He is the Truth that sets us free. PROVERBS 14:12 tells us that: "There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death."
