The Possibilities of What If?
John 4:27-38 To play the "what if's" regarding what one should have of should not have done can be very harmful; but in regard to deciding how to plug in to the opportunities that lie before you, it can be more than a little exciting. We cannot change the past; but working in concert with a mighty God we can surely impact the present and the future. Ray Boltz wrote and sings a song entitled: "What If I Give All" it is a story about a little boy who hears a preacher say that a dime will feed a hungry boy or girl who has nothing to eat. He first pulls out a dollar and asks how many will this feed? He' s told ten. He then pulls out all three of his birthday dollars and asks: "What if I give all that I have, what will that gift do?" Answer: "My Son, that gift Can change the world; It will free the multitudes." In a song that the Gaithers did a number of years ago called, "Broken and Spilled Out" a woman with reckless abandon broke and poured her valuable perfume on Jesus' feet. One chorus tells of how Jesus, God's most precious treasure was broken and spilled out in sweet abandon because of God's love for us. The other chorus reads:
"Broken and spilled out, Just for love of You, Jesus. My most precious treasure Lavished on Thee; Broken and spilled out and poured at your feet. In sweet abandon Let me be spilled out and used up for Thee." (1984 William J. Gaither, Inc.\ Yellow House Music)
If we give of ourselves and our goods in measured amounts, God will surely bless us, that's His promise. He returns generously, but with the same measure. (Mark 4:24) But as we yield ourselves to Him without measure, only eternity will finally calculate the results. God cannot be out given. What if I gave all…?
