The Seeking Ones Find

Matthew 2:1-12 In Jeremiah 29:13 we read, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." This has always been a promise from God. Almost the same words are said in Deut. 4:29. If one attempts to find Him to prove that He is there; chances are He won't be found; but if by faith He is sought because one is hungry to know Him; He certainly will be found. Around the time of the birth of Jesus, there seemed to be an air of expectancy. I'm sure that Simeon and Anna in the temple were not the only ones that had been living in anticipation of His coming. There were also those we refer to as Magi, Kings, or Wisemen who had diligently searched the heavens for signs of a coming great King of the Jews. There are various suggestions as to where they came from: Arabia, Persia, Babylon. . . The fact that they were searching for a "King of the Jews" suggest that they may have even been of Jewish lineage themselves. Does this mean that God puts His stamp of approval on the methods of astrology that they were using? Not at all. God is able to provide right answers, even when we look in wrong places. If He is the object of the search, He will be found. When this unknown number of Magi who brought three gifts came into Jerusalem asking questions about where the King of Jews was that had been born; the word traveled fast. When the word got to the palace, Herod, who was paranoid to begin with, was quite disturbed. In doing a little research of his own; he learned from the chief priests and the teachers of the law that Bethlehem was the place of the expected birth. On summoning the Magi and questioning them, he sent them on their way asking them to return and tell him where they had found the new king. God Himself instructed them to go home a different way.
