The Storm Quieter

Mark 4: 35-41 Because of the way the Sea of Galilee is situated violent storms can occur without warning. This is exactly what happened as Jesus was crossing with His disciples. Jesus was taking advantage of a little time away from the crowds and was taking a nap in the stem of the boat. The storm came, the waves began to come over the edge of the boat, and the disciples were panic stricken. Even though some of them were fisher man, and should have been used to the rough waters, this one got the best of them. On waking Jesus, they asked Him, "Don't you care if we drown?" Jesus awakened and spoke to the storm, "Quiet! Be still!" The sea became immediately, completely calm. Then Jesus said to His disciples, "Why are you so cowardly"? Do you still have no faith?" It seems as though Jesus needed to say this to His disciples rather often. They had with them the miracle working Son of God, who had always met their needs. It is very easy for us to point our finger at the disciples and wonder at the slowness of their learning. Yet the same Je sus is also our Savior, Teacher, Lord, Guide, etc. He promised that He, "would never leave us nor forsake us." Even so we also forget very quickly and begin worrying. There is a contemporary Christian song and one of the lines in the song says, "Jesus can calm the storm, but that doesn't mean He will - other times He calms His child." When we call out to the Lord in our trouble, the trouble doesn't necessarily go away, but He will always give us or make available to us what we need to make it through. Jesus is the storm Calmer. Trust Him.
