The Word Became Flesh
John 1:1-14, At Christmas time we celebrate a miracle even greater than creation itself. It is far more than just a birth that took place in a stable 2000 years ago, as miraculous as the birth of a baby is. In talking about it we can only describe the facts as the Bible tells us - to try to understand is futile. The proper attitude is simply to stand in awe and worship our mighty God. John chapter 1 tells us that the Word who already was before any beginning you can choose. who was and is God Himself, and through this Word all creation that was ever created came into being. This Word was placed in the womb of the Virgin Mary who took part in the miracle of the Word becoming flesh and dwelling among us. John describes Him, 'We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." He came with one mission, to die for our sins, in our place. That's what God's love did for us - that's what it cost. A far greater tragedy than not really seeing who the Christ child was. Is to leave Him as a baby in our thinking. or even to leave Him as just a good and perfect man. Notice Jesus' prayer in John 17:5 "And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began." Read Colossians 1:15-20 and Philippians 2:9-11. We need to stop thinking small and start to think of God as He is. He cannot be contained in our understanding. My prayer is that this Christmas you will see far more than just a baby, but the God of eternity who came because He loved you!
