They Cried Out To GOD
Have you ever read through the first part of the book of I Chronicles with all the tangle of strange names and so many of them? Perhaps you wonder, "Why am I spending time trying to read all these names I can't pronounce, much less understand?" Have you thought that in a thousand years your name could be mentioned in an equally boring list? Just as you are a person who has experienced struggles resulting in victory or defeat. Many of those experiences are worth sharing and remembering; but a thousand years from now, who would even care? I believe that's why the God inspired the writer of the book of I Chronicles to sprinkle in a few personal details in the lives of these names, so that we could see them as real people like ourselves. Take, for example, I Chronicles 4:9f. A man by the name of Jabez cried out to the God of Israel." … "And God granted his request." This insignificant name in a list caught someone's eye and they wrote a book. That book has been read by probably more than a million people and changed many of their lives. If that piques your interest you might want to buy the book and check it out for yourself. I found another passage that caught my attention. It is in I Chronicles 5:18-20. Here, two and a half tribes with an insignificant army are waging war with a people much greater than themselves. They too "cried out to God." In verse 20, "God handed the Hagrites and all their allies over to them, because they cried out to him during the battle. He answered their prayers, because they trusted in him." Read verses 21 and 22 and see what God accomplished with the 44,760-man army. I'd like to explore the question - What do you do in the middle of a project that you feel God has called you to; and you discover that it's miles over your head? Using their example: First they obediently started the project. Second, they realized the magnitude of what they had set out to do. Third, they cried out in faith to the One who called them to the assignment. Fourth, God enabled them to finish in victory, because it was His project.
