Understanding the Times
I Chronicles 12.23-37 Verse 32 "Men of Issachar who under stood the times and knew what Israel should do... "King Saul was dead, Israel had been badly defeated by the Philistines, confusion and frustration must have filled the nation. The armies of the tribes of Israel were joining David in Hebron and pledging their allegiance to him. Issachar was unique. Judging by the comments made about them. They understood the times. They understood that their nation was not in the will of God otherwise God, would have fought for them. They understood that continuing in the same path would mean certain disaster. God had had enough of their rebellious, nonsense. They knew that their strength was not in themselves and that they didn't have all the answers. They knew that Israel needed to rally around God's anointed king. They knew that Israel needed to be in the center of God's will and in one accord with their fellow Israelites. Couldn't we profit greatly if we could get a handle on what Issachar discovered. We need to understand the times in which we live; in our world, our nation, our city, and our church. Where do we fit in? What resources do we have at our disposal? Where does God fit in? What abilities has He given us?
