What Does God See in Me?
I Samuel 16:1-13. The Scripture under discussion today is about David being anointed as king of Israel. Even the prophet Samuel was not able to discern which of the sons of Jesse would be God's choice. He was looking at the size and health of the sons. Even Samuel was not able to see inside to evaluate the hidden Spiritual qualities and the potential they had that God was able to develop. God didn't put Samuel down, only reminded him that the important qualities were on the inside, and that was God's job. Sometimes we feel that we are so good at the way we can figure people out, and the truth of the matter is that many times we cannot figure ourselves out. There are at least two things in this area that I'm grateful for. One is that when God called me, He did it on the basis of what I could be and not on what I was. The other thing is that you don't know about me what God does. God can love me in spite of it. I don't know whether you could. I'm sure that most of you could say the same thing about yourselves. Maybe the important thing is not that God can see a great potential in our lives, but that as long as there is a difference between the potential God sees in us and the reality He sees in us, we should never be happy with the way we are. We need to have Him put to death the difference between the two and get on with becoming what He called us to be.
