What Kind of Treasure is Stored in Your Heart?
Matthew 12:33-37 The kinds of things we say and the things that we do, arid the attitude with which we do and say them, determines the kind of person we are and the condition of our hearts, we can only draw from what has been stored. Sometimes we are exposed to and experience things that we have no control of at all, but for the most part we decide the things that we allow to come into our minds and hearts. It may be things that we actively seek or passively because we just happen to be there -- remember a sponge will soak up whatever liquid its thrown into. Our hearts are the control center, deciding what comes in and what goes out. V'/e have control of and responsibility for what we draw from our hearts in the form of words. If we only have rotten fruit stored, that's all that can come out. Even if there is some good among the bad, if the bad isn't dumped the good will soon be spoiled also. The passage tells us that we will have to give account for every idle or careless word that comes out of our mouths. It can't come out of our mouth if it wasn't already in our heart. Store good and godly things in your heart so that that is the kind of things that can come out. Let God change your heart so that you can exercise control over your words.
