Where Do You Get Your Council?
Psalm 1:1-3 You and I are not as strong as we think we are, and the devil is not the push-over that you might think. The First Psalm has some important truths to ponder. There are three areas that a person is blessed if he doesn't participate in. The first is not walking in the council of the ungodly. There is a lot of advice out in the world, some good but much is bad. The test of good council is the Word of God. Don't get your advice in the streets. A person is also blessed if he doesn't stand in the way of sinners. This means that he doesn't continually keep himself exposed to ungodly lifestyles and language. The third way he is blessed if he doesn't participate in the ungodly practices, in other words, he doesn't sit in the seat of the mockers. There are then come positive habits he has, and these are especially important. He has a craving for the Word of God. When he is not reading it he's thinking about it, considering it, meditating on it. The Psalmist says he is like a tree planted by the water. His roots are always out there drinking in the "word water". His life bears appropriate fruit at the proper time. Everything he does prospers, because he's always moving under the direction of the Spirit and the Word.
