Are You A Chameleon Christian?

Daniel 1:1-15 Many "Christians" have this special ability to fit in wherever they are and look just like everyone else. They know clean jokes and dirty jokes, good language and bad language, good habits and bad habits. Some get to be pretty good at remembering which lie they told whom. Whatever company they're in, that's what they are. Only problem, what are they really? Daniel and his friends lived at a point in history when being a godly person was not what most people were into. The nation had become so corrupt in its relationship with God that God finally had had enough. God had allowed Israel, including Jerusalem, to be defeated by Babylon and many of its royalty and skilled workers to be carried away into captivity. Daniel and his friends were among those carried away to Babylon. As godly men they had been in a minority in Judah, how much more so in Babylon? Now they had some difficult choices to make. They were chosen to be in an elite group of men to be groomed over a three year period to be in service for the king himself. They were to be fed from the king's table. Food the king himself ate. Daniel had a difficult choice to make. Would he and his friends just blend in - after all "God would understand" - or would they say no to the unclean foods and drink? They choose to eat only vegetables and water. They asked their keeper to test them for ten days. After the ten-day test they were healthier than any of the others. This certainly was not their last test, but each time, God blessed them for their decision to remain faithful. What kind of choices would you have made if you had been in Daniel's place? What kinds of choices do you make as you go through your own life's situations? Some things do not involve moral or spiritual issues and do not violate Biblical principles - choose what will work best. But what will you do when choosing not to compromise will cost you your home, your job or your friends? Can you trust God and by faith choose to make the right choice? This will tell who you really are. Are you a chameleon Christian?
