Why Are you Running? Where Are You Looking?

"I Kings 19:11The Lord said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by." Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earth-quake.12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" Where does one begin looking for the Lord? In the previous several years of Elijah's experience, there had been a sign or a miracle that he could call upon God for. Now he felt worn out and alone, his life threatened by Jezebel and no appropriate miracle to call down to rescue him. So, he ran. God even helped him run - gave him food and rest. God had several important lessons for Elijah and for us too. First of all, Elijah was not alone - neither are we. Next, God certainly performed the signs and wonders, but the signs and wonders were not God. The Psalmist said, "Be still, and know that I am God." We know God not by the circumstance and situations but because He Himself is there and is findable and approachable. Seek God not the signs.
