Will the Stones Cry Out?
Luke 19:28-40 Just a week before His crucifixion, after He had sent His disciples into the village to get a donkey's colt for Him to ride into Jerusalem on; He paused and looked on Jerusalem. The Scripture says that He wept. The name Jerusalem means "Jehovah is Peace", yet they didn't recognize the very means that God was bringing them peace. He spoke of a soon coming judgment. As He approached, the crowds began to gather and were joyfully praising God with loud voices as Jesus came into Jerusalem. The Pharisees in the crowd told Jesus that He should rebuke His disciples for their praising. They felt it was out of place that He should be receiving their praise. He replied, "If they keep quiet, the stones will cry out." The stones cried out while Jesus was on the cross - the very earth shook. The stones again cried out as they fell one from atop the other when the city of Jerusalem and her temple were destroyed in 70 AD. Are the "stones" of our nation and our church getting ready to cry out? When Jesus enters, it is our right, our privilege, our responsibility to let our voices pour forth with His praises. Don't worry about who hears or who criticizes. Let us say with Joshua, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Let our praises punctuate that service.
