A Quiet Place

Mark 6:30-32 Jesus sent His disciples out in six groups of two each, on a mission assignment. They were to preach repentance, heal the sick and cast out demons. The Bible doesn't tell us how long they were gone, but it seems that they were successful in their ministry. They came back with an exciting report of how even the demons had obeyed them. In the other Gospels Jesus reminded them to be concerned that their names are written in heaven rather than the fact that the demons obeyed. What is important for us to see is that after the report of their ministry was given and the people were swamping them, Jesus said to them "come with Me by yourselves to a quiet place and rest." Notice the four parts: with Jesus, by yourselves, to a quiet place, and rest. The most important part is that it's with Jesus. When we have been out about our Father's business, He is the only one who can really understand and feel your hurts, your joys, and your hopes. You need to leave your baggage outside the door, it's a time to just crawl up on His lap and let Him hold you. You need to spend that time in a quiet place, away from the distractions that are so quick to grab your attention, or your interest Resting is something that some of us have a bit of trouble doing. Remember the verse "Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest." Rest is something that He gives us, not something that we do. Let us make it a project to learn to come away, alone with Him and let Him bring us into His rest.
