Faith — a Preparation for Faith
Luke 9:40-56 In the Gospels, when there are so many different miracles and experiences of Jesus that could be shared; it is sometimes interesting to try to discover why the ones presented were chosen. The one in today’s Scripture is interesting because there is a miracle within a miracle. Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue is coming to Jesus because his only daughter is dying. He asks Jesus to come to his house. Jesus already knew that Jairus’ daughter would die before He could get there. The father’s faith was probably not equal to a “raising from the dead." I believe that God timed the healing of the woman with the issue of blood to help Jairus with his faith. This woman was disparate, she struggled with a bleeding disorder for the past 12 years with no relief from the doctors. She not only believed but she knew that if she could just touch Jesus’ clothing, she would be healed. She did so and was healed. Jesus said to her “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.” A little later while still on the way to Jairus’ house, word came, “Don’t bother the teacher any more, your daughter is dead.” Notice Jesus’ words to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid, just believe, and she will be healed.” I believe that God used the woman’s faith to build up the faith of Jairus. I also believe that God is doing the same kind of thing today. When our faith, patience, perseverance, etc. is lacking; He brings us through situations that will prepare us for the big one coming.
