God Still Rolls Away Stones
Luke 24:1-12 In the Gospel of Mark, the women as they approached the tomb, discussed among themselves, "Who will roll away the stone from the entrance of the tomb?" The stone rolled in a track in front of the cave opening. It had to be large enough to cover the entrance, so it was probably a bigger project than one or two people could handle. I’m sure they were delightfully surprised when they found that the stone had already been moved. That wasn’t the only surprise that they had —when they got close enough to see inside, they discovered that the body was gone! God is so good; He didn’t leave them there to wonder and to leave with no answer. God provided two angles to remind them of what Jesus had told them before concerning His resurrection. They did remember and left to tell the disciples what happened. Most of the disciples passed it off as foolishness and didn’t believe, but Peter and John (according to the other Gospels) went to see for themselves. Did Jesus actually rise from the dead? The soldier’s spear in His side indicated that He certainly was dead. The stone was rolled away; the grave was empty; the angels announced it; Jesus appeared alive eleven different times during the next 40 days; He appeared to 500 people at one time; He was seen physically ascending into heaven with a promise to return. There is no question — He did rise from the dead. God moved the stone and started a process. God still moves stones — Do you have one in your life that needs moving?
