God's Power & Wisdom — the Cross!

I Corinthians 18:25 In the world’s eyes the bigger the job the greater the power required to get the job done. More power, more resources, more money, more manpower are needed to accomplish the task. On the bigger jobs, greater technology, more expertise, more knowledge, more wisdom is needed. But what if one is dealing with an impossible situation, one for which there is no amount of power or technology that can accomplish the job. There are certainly many things that were once thought to be impossible that are done routinely in our day. But, the one thing that every living person must contend with and for which there are no human answers is the ultimate encounter everyone will have with the Living Eternal God. Simply believing that He doesn’t exist and refusing to deal with it won’t make the problem go away. Without somehow being reconciled with Him, there is only a lost eternity to be faced. Only the One and Only Son of God could meet these specifications. God chose the means — the cross! A stumbling block to the Jews and foolishness to the gentiles. The bar was set infinitely high that only God could reach, yet attainably low that all people might reach it. The Jews were always demanding of Jesus a sign. Jesus essentially said that His resurrection would be the sign. (Sign of Jonah - Matthew 12:39ff)- The philosophers on Mars Hill were looking for wisdom from Paul. Paul told them about the cross. ‘Through the ‘foolishness’ of what is preached, God saves those who believe.” I Corinthians 1:21 b
