Guard Your Heart

Proverbs 4:20-27. "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the well spring of life." Proverbs 4:23" The heart is the seat of the emotions and drives and the stuff that life is made of. Without a guard it will pretty much follow one’s drives and hormones. It is not that the heart feels guilty or not guilty. It can't distinguish right from wrong. That's why Solomon said, "guard your heart." When we allow ourselves to fall in love with someone or something that is not pleasing to the Lord, our heart has no trouble responding, that is what it is best at. It is when you discover that the Lord is not pleased with the situation and you try to change your habits, that the heart experiences pain and begins to protest vigorously. When you give your heart a taste of videos that are sex and violence oriented, one's heart can began to really enjoy this new diet and will protest when you choose to stop. Your spirit and mind must be trained to discern what it is that pleases the Lord and that doesn't please the Lord and learn to be a strong disciplinarian and stick to it even when there is great pain. The Psalmist David said, "I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against you." Psalm 119:11. To have your heart filled with the word and in close fellowship with the Holy Spirit, is the best way to be equipped to cleanse and keep clean the wellsprings of your life. Remember the eyes, the ears, and the memory are wide highways to the heart. Watch what kind of traffic flows down these highways. GUARD YOUR HEART!!
