I Go to Prepare a Place for You
John 14:1-14 Jesus tells His disciples, "Don't let your hearts be troubled." They must have been more than a little confused. Early in the week they had witnessed the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. They had set down to the Last Supper, and there Jesus washed their feet and shortly after He told them that they all would desert Him. He even told Peter that he would deny Him three times by the next morning. Now He tells them, "Don't let your hearts be troubled." He's telling them that they have the ability to not let their hearts be troubled." That ability to control their confusion comes from trusting in the Father and in the Son. He's also telling them that no matter what they are going to be experiencing, they will come through to the other side; and when they get there Jesus will have prepared a place for them to be together forever. He didn't try to explain to them what it all meant. His promise — when they came through, there would be a place prepared for them. Even as they asked Him questions, "Where are you going?", "Show us the Father.", etc. He told them, "I am the Way...", and "If you've seen Me you've seen the Father." Jesus would be enough to get them through it all. Things haven't changed from then until now. No matter how confusing, and frightening things may become in our day and in our individual situations. Jesus has provided a way — Himself! — He is the way. He has prepared a place — Heaven! The key is not in understanding or knowledge, or technology. It is in trusting in Him - in Jesus! Trust in Him and follow where He leads. As Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight” He won't lead you wrong.
