Offering the fruit of our lips
Psalm 50:7-15,23 Sometimes we serve the Lord as though we were doing Him some kind of favor. Our Scripture helps us to set the record straight. Verses 9-12 & 14 tell us I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens, for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine, if I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it... Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High..." When thank offerings were brought to be sacrificed, they would be eaten and enjoyed in the presence of God. Our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving is the “fruit of our lips” confessing His Name and offering our praise to the One Who is Worthy. Jer. 33:11, Hosea 14:2, and Hebrews 13:15. It is not a forcing ourselves to do it even when we don’t feel like it (even though we need to praise Him in spite of our feelings at times). It is more in the order of celebrating our fellowship time with Him. Our worship and praise in the comfort of His presence have a way of refueling our peace and joy tanks and He is able to impart a little more of His character to us. The words that we bring to Him have power. We all know that the words we say to others can build up or they can tear down and destroy. God takes seriously our words to Him and to others, and He expects us to carry out what we have committed ourselves to do. Psalm 50:15 says, “Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High, and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me” Let us offer Him the fruit of our lips in praise and thanksgiving on a continual basis, for He alone is worthy.
