Our Eyes Are on You!

2 Chronicles 20:1-37 King Jehoshaphat was told that a vast army was on its way to make war with Judah. The army that was approaching was far superior to that which Judah had, so Jehoshaphat brought his petition before the Lord. He proclaimed a fast and all of Judah came together to seek help from the Lord. As king Jehoshaphat prayed, he reminded God that when Israel had passed through the desert on the way to the promised land that they had not been allowed to pass through their lands of these invading peoples and that now they were being attacked by them. Also, of the promise given to Solomon as he dedicated the temple, that “If calamity comes upon us, whether the sword of judgment, or plague or famine, we will stand in your presence before this temple that bears your Name and will cry out to you in our distress, and you will hear us and save us.” (v9) The king closes his prayer with, "For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.” God's answer came quickly. The king and the people were told not to fear the vast army that was approaching, because the battle was not theirs but the Lord’s. When Judah went to battle, they were led by praisers and worshipers not by warriors. God fought the battle that day and Judah didn't have to lift a finger to fight. How many battles do we engage in daily and end up battered and weary never realizing that they were God’s battles and our help was not required. Perhaps we should respond more often with, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.” and proceed to praise and worship Him.
