Praying for Results
James 5:13-15 "Do you ever feel that your prayers are completely ignored? It is certainly true that all our prayers must ultimately bow before the Sovereign will of God, however many prayers go unanswered because we fail to realize that all prayer involves warfare with the enemy either directly or indirectly. The enemy steals from us by muddying our understanding of our relationship with God; by diverting our attention to non-issues; by dulling our faith; by causing us to think that repentance and forgiveness are low priority items; by causing us to give up early; etc.; etc. So often we have a candy store mentality in our prayers. We want things that will increase our pleasure and enjoyment or someone else’s. People need to be saved, not just to be made to feel good. If we truly believe that God has a plan for our lives and the lives of others, then our prayers would be far more effective if we kept that in mind. Remember it is about Him and His kingdom, not about us and our thing for the moment. In saying that we must balance that with the fact that God loves us and wants to enjoy life. Real joy comes as we live life in the context of what He’s doing in the kingdom. Praying to that end with persistence will yield great results.
