Putting on the Belt of Truth
Ephesians 6:10-15 Truth is not the sum of what we are able to see and hear and feel. We, in our generation, should be more keenly aware of this than in any other. Go to any science fiction or action movie with all its special effects — you know in your head that what you’re seeing is not really what is happening; but when you’re caught up in the middle of the action, your emotions will tell you, this is real. Politicians have a way of painting pictures of what they want the public to believe. Truth is what is, with no spin or special effects, Pilate, after Jesus told him that He had come into the world to testify to the truth, asked. “What is truth?” In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the Way the Truth and the Life..." If you want to know the truth about what something weighs, you put it on the scales. If you want to know how long something is, you measure it with a ruler. When you want to know the truth about life you “measure” it with Jesus through the Word; which is forever settled in heaven. God is who the Bible says He is. I am what the Bible says I am. John 3:18 says that if I don't believe, I am already condemned. John 3:16 tells me that if I believe, I will not perish but have eternal life. The Bible also tells me that if I am in Christ, I am a new creation, that the old has gone and the new has come. II Corinthians. 5:17. When we get up in the morning, we need to make sure that the belt of truth is in place, (don't forget the rest of the armor, those pieces are important too.) We must not stop with just knowing what the truth is. We need to begin to act on the truth. That’s what doing the Word is, to act on what we know is true. In time acting on the truth will feel more normal because it can be developed into a habit. Remember just as the Word says to speak the truth in love - it is also appropriate to “do the truth” in love.
