Your Fruit Is Showing
John 3:1-21. Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council called the Sanhedrin needed, some answers. In observing Jesus and His ministry and His miracles, he concluded that what he saw could not happen unless God were involved in it. He came to Jesus at night, out of respect for Jesus’ busy schedule and also because it was a time when he could have “one on one” uninterrupted time. Before Nicodemus was able to phrase his questions, Jesus moved right to the point of what the man needed to know. Have you ever been to the place where there were things that you wanted to know and ask about, but you didn’t even know what words to use to ask. Very often the deep longings of the heart are beyond putting into words. Jesus knew that and began to answer what Nicodemus was really asking. Jesus told him that in order to enter the kingdom of God and to truly understand, then there must be a new birth. “You must be born again” or more literally “born from above” 2 Cor. 5:17 puts it this way: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” You’re not just the old you with “new clothes” on, you become brand new from the inside out. True, you do retain the old memories, and you still can choose to walk in the old ways; but you’ve been set free. There is a love relationship established between you and God. There is a desire to know Him more, to please Him and to be in His presence. There is a fresh hunger for His Word. There becomes a love and a kinship with others who know Him. There is a desire to see those who don’t know Him, to come to know Him. You begin to see everything from an entirely new perspective.
