Can God Use Me?
I Corinthians 1:18-25 Have you ever noticed as you read through the Bible that so many of the people that God used in a mighty way were just common people with no particular claim to fame. David, king of Israel, the man after God's own heart, was a shepherd. He was the youngest of seven brothers, not even the most promising looking; but God used him in a mighty way to unite the nation. God rescued the baby Moses from the Nile river. Amos the prophet pruned sycamore trees in an orchard. The twelve disciples that Jesus called to entrust with His mission were just common folks: fishermen tax collectors, etc. All of these and so many others, God used to accomplish His will on earth. Even Mary, whom God chose to bear His Son, had no great name or family. She was a young woman, probably in her middle teens, a virgin, who was willing by faith to do and to be whatever God asked of her. Joseph, a carpenter, was willing to take second place and even to raise a son who was not his own. All of the great men and women of God were basically common folks who by faith, said yes to God. Mary put is very well when she said, "I am the Lord's servant...may it be to me as you have said." Luke 1:38. So much of the time we do it backwards. We try to get ourselves cleaned up and prepared with the view of saying, "Here I am, Lord, now I'm ready." What God really wants is for us to say, "Here I am, use me, and by faith I'll be whatever you ask of me." With that attitude, it doesn't matter what you've done or where you've been, God will prepare you and give you the talents and training for what He has in mind for you. All He requires is faith-obedience from us. He'll take care of the details. Are you ready for an exciting life filled with the impossible? Just say "yes" to God.
