Do Not Be Found Sleeping!
Mark 13:32-37 I can remember when we were kids and our parents would go shopping, we would be left at home under the care of my older sister. While they were gone we would all fight like cats and dogs, run all over the house, drive the dog nuts - not at all what our parents expected. Then some would see that, "Mama's coming!" and all would be peaceful, except for Sally, the dog who was still running in circles - Mama never could figure what was wrong with Sally. A similar thing is true between us and our Lord - He returned to heaven with a promise that He was coming back. Whether He's gone several hours or several thousand years, He is coming back! He expects us to be faithful in the tasks He has called us to. If we wait to start until we "see Him pulling in the driveway" it's too late. He "pulls into your driveway" on one of two occasions, when He returns at the last trumpet to meet Him in the air or our death - and we don't know the timing of either one. By sleep He's not referring to nightly rest. He's talking about not being about the task He's called us to. By watching, He's not suggesting that we stand at the window and wait until we see Him before we start getting busy. It's rather pointless to talk about all the things that are going to happen with His children when He returns to get them if we are not acting like one while we're waiting. We might better be prepared to be left behind. Learn to love the things that He loves and begin discovering what the things are that He left for you to do.
