Don't be afraid, just believe
Mark 5:21-24; 35-43 These words were said to the synagogue ruler. Why would a synagogue ruler be afraid in the first place? I had thought that these folks always had it all together. Maybe it all depends on whose problems you' re dealing with. It's not hard to have a firm faith grip on someone else's problems. but this was his own daughter and he was frightened for her life. Notice the tender way that Jesus is speaking to him. This isn't like the usual way that Jesus talked to this sort of person. Usually the Scribes and Pharisees and the various leaders got blasted; but usually they came with pride and fake holiness. This man came to Jesus in desperation with no answers, needing help Jesus was there. "Don't be afraid, just believe. Powerful words. Jesus says, "It's okay now, I have it under control I'll take care of things." It reminds me of a line from a song I once heard, "Sometimes He calms the storm, other times He calms His Child." Jesus is saying to each of us, "Don't be afraid. just believe."
