Fan to Flames the Gift
II Timothy 1: 3-7 "...I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us the spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline." II Timothy 1:6-7 Because Paul had observed faith in Timothy, he encourages him to begin to use the spiritual gifts that were given to him. Fan them into flame - use your anointing. Perhaps Timothy, because of his youth among so many more mature believers, felt intimidated, or unqualified to use them. Paul reminds him that it is God that has given him the power, the love and the self-discipline and has not given him this fear. I believe that God is still saying the same thing today. Perhaps He has given you a gift, and is saying to you, fan it into flame. There are spiritual gifts that God still gives today. There are also talents and abilities, which when given to God can be anointed and empowered not with your ability, but with His power. The difference between operating in the flesh or in the Spirit is whether it's under your direction or His, whether it's your ability or His enablement. Just as He said to Moses, "What is in your hand?" It was his staff and as he yielded it to God, it was a powerful tool. What is in your hand? Will you let God use it? If so, you'll be glad you did and you'll begin to see the kingdom of God advancing in and through your life.
