Fearfully and Wonderfully Made
psalm 139:1-18 & 23-24 The 139th Psalm has for many years been one of my very favorite selections in the Bible. Perhaps it's because it captures the awesomeness of God and at the same time brings me into a very personal relationship with Him. There is not a thing about me that He does not know; not only in the past and present, but also in the future. The amazing thing about it is that He loves me anyway. There is not a place that we can go that He is not always there. It doesn't matter whether we are in a vast crowd of people, or isolated in a cave on deserted distant island - He still knows and cares for us as individuals. It doesn't matter if it is bright light or total darkness, He sees us just the same. I was reminded of this Psalm the other day when I heard some of the statistics regarding the Roe vs Wade decision made 29 years ago. In that span of time more than 1 billion babies have been aborted worldwide and in our own country 28 percent of the pregnancies have been terminated by abortion. Lay these facts beside the next few verses of our Psalm. Verses 13ff "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; . . . your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." The only thing that makes Sept.11th worse is that we can see Sept.11th - wonder how God sees it. David ends the Psalm with a plea - "Search me 0 God and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me to the way everlasting." Pray that our nation would repent, and that God would have mercy on us. Even if our nation does not, we as individuals can and must.
