Fresh Water in a Desert

I Timothy 4:12, "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, In life, in love (agape), In faith and In purity." To not let people look down on you because of your youth is not controlled by rule or command, but the sense of the verse is that we show whether or not we are a "wet behind the ears" kid by how we allow others to see us in the way we speak, in our behavior, in the way we love, in the way we show our faith and in the purity of our lives. The fresh water that people need is not only the physical food and drink, but also how Christ can give back a reason to live, love, and care. People really need to see that Jesus works in everyday life situations. They don't need to see people without problems, but people who have hope and stability in the midst of life shattering circumstances. They need to see that it's possible to come out the other side stronger and with faith intact. We need to be this fresh water for one another, so that as a church we can be fresh water to a dying world. The verses go on to say, "Don't neglect your gift." God has given each one of us Supernatural gifts to use in our walk with Him. They are not for entertainment or to make us special, but for the purpose of building up the body of Christ.
