God Invades History
Galatians 3:26-4:7 God interacts with history on a continual basis. But there are times that he invades history in rather dramatic ways. From our perspective the first instance was in creation itself, somehow when you start with nothing and end up with the world as we know it there's been a rather dramatic invasion. We see God making man in his own image and then interacting with him directly in the garden, in the case of Enoch we read that he walked with God and was taken directly to heaven. We could also mention the flood and the whole process of Israel's being delivered out of Egypt; but the most spectacular of all, we celebrate at Christmas. And in II Corinthians 5:19 we read that "God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself." In Galatians 4:4 "when the time had fully come, God sent his son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might well receive the full rights of sons." Another translation says, "at just the right time." It was just the right time from an historical perspective, from a geographical perspective, and from a political perspective. Alexander the great had recently conquered the whole area introducing the Greek culture and language and a wide system of roads. What better way for the gospel to be propagated quickly and easily. There will be another great intervention in history and we believe that it is coming soon. It is when Jesus returns to take us home. Will you be ready for that time?
